Last year was our first time visiting Big Bear and we fell in love. The kids loved it so much they wanted it added to our Summer list for this year as well. We have until September 21st, the official last day of Summer to mark off the rest of our list...I think all but one will be done!
Being that it was Labor Day weekend Big Bear was quite busy, but that didn't stop us from enjoying the beautiful day and the hikes at Snow Summit.
It was gorgeous at the top. Lots of stops for pictures, snacks, watching the mountain bikers zoom by and examining things along the trail.
Mailee collected "crystals" for her collection. I put the limit on 10. She would've had every pocket full of rocks, flowers and other mountain treasures if I didn't give a limit.
The trees were so beautiful against the clouds and sky.
These kids make everything fun and interesting. Looking for Big Foot, attempting to feed the ants, or jumping off rocks, they are the best!
The tram ride back down was beautiful. The lake in the background and the blue, blue sky. I could hear Jonas saying "Hello!" to everyone that passed by on the lift, or down below. The girls looked for squirrels and we sang "The hills are aliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive....with the sound of music" and giggled a lot.
The pine cones everywhere we huge. I suggested the kids find one to bring home as a souvenir. They've already been used as a Squinkie house, a fairy house and there are currently big plans to decorate them as Christmas trees.
Jonas insisted he carry his the whole time. He was pretty proud of himself for not dropping it on the ride down...as was I, because there would be some major pine cone dropping drama.
The mountain air and time spent outside was just what I needed. We have plans to head back up at the end of the month to see if the leaves have changed and do the Alpine Slides up there.
I think it's pretty awesome that in one weekend we went from the beautiful beach, waves and ocean, to the desert and up the mountains where the leaves have started to change.
For this family who loves adventures, family time and the outdoors we live in an amazing place! You're welcome to come for a visit anytime...
