{35}

Tomorrow Bret will celebrate his 35th birthday.

Three. Five.

I have vivid memories of an awesome couple who taught me as a youth at church and the husband was 35.  They were the epitome of what I wanted to be with my family/spouse.  I thought 35 was pretty old.  They had kids, a home and a light dusting of gray hair.

I remember trying to comprehend what it would be like to be that old...but it just seemed too far away.

Now I am married to a 35 year old.  He has kids, a home, and pets...but so far no gray hairs. It's a good thing he looks like he's 25 and has the energy of an 18 year old.

Age is just a number.
We will be at the beach all day celebrating with friends and family on his birthday tomorrow, so he opened his presents a day early.

A new watch (his addiction), a watch display box (remember he's addicted which means lots of watches), blue tooth headphones (he's also a nerd), new shoes (is my addiction rubbing off on him?), and a Kindle Fire (YES!  Now I don't have to wait to read while he plays games) were all appreciated by the birthday boy.

He especially liked his new tee that paid homage to a super rad show.

 I saved what I thought was the best present for last and couldn't wait to give to him.

I sent Kent of ZippyPortraits a few pictures of our family and he worked his magic on the one he liked best.  He chose this picture below:
The portrait turned out far better than I could have imagined.  I instantly fell in love with it and could hardly keep from showing Bret the proof Kent sent me a few weeks before his birthday.
When Bret opened it I couldn't really see his reaction.  After a long pause (and a few "Oohs and Ahhs" from the kids) he looked up and declared it his most favorite gift ever.

There may have even been a tear or two in his eyes.  This man loves his family something fierce.

Happy Birthday Dear (I informed him I could now officially call him that now that he's "older").  We love you something fierce as well!!
