{Out back}

For the last couple of weekends we've been busy (and by we I mean mostly Bret) prepping the yard for grass.

It's a process!

My brother who knows how to do sprinklers came down from Utah and helped do the sprinklers with Bret 2 weekends ago.

Measuring, menfolk thinking, multiple Home Depot trips, cutting, gluing/sealing, trenching and testing happened that weekend.A few before pics of the back yard. We are putting grass on one side and the whole back portion, however, leaving one side of the yard/side of the house open for gravel and raised garden boxes.Bret doesn't care how I landscape it as long as I keep his "perfect spot" clear of anything but grass. He keeps pointing out his perfect spot and how awesome it will be to have a wall for the kids (and us) to kick the soccer ball against.

We are a bit obsessed with soccer at our house.

I would really like any suggestions as to what sort of grasses to put along the slope at the back of the yard. I was thinking long wild grasses endemic to this area and succulents. I'd really like a succulent wall along the back wall as well.

What do you think?This weekend we (again by we I mean mostly Bret and some other guys)will be laying about 4000 square feet of sod! My contribution will be cheering the men on and finding some serrated knives at the local thrift store to cut the sod with.

I can't wait to finally have a back yard to send the kids out to play in! I can see many camp outs, parties, and memories happening out back.

Finished yard pictures forthcoming.

Woo hoo! What a big job! I am so happy you will have that yard! You are the last person who needs suggestions about designs, I'm just jealous you have that enormous canvas to work with! So awesome.

Woohoo! for progress!! You should still come out in the spring. I'm sure we could think of something to buy with the $$....

Nice.. I love the gazebo! There is nothing like having grass in. Our house was completely different after the grass and the kids will be in heaven.. Nice work.

How have you not lived without grass in your backyard. We would die.

My biggest landscaping tip: Get a trampoline. the best childhood memories are made on a trampoline.

As for grass, my husband says St. Augustine (spelling?) is the best. He says that is what golf courses use.

Your backyard is gigantic! It looks like it is going to be such an awesome place to be when it's all finished. Definitely worth all the work :) I can't wait for you to get the sod in. And sorry that I'm not closer to send Christian to help! ;)
