Today I send my little chicks off to their first day of school (pictures will be posted tomorrow).

I feel somewhat robbed that our Summer was so short. I am almost positive my school year's always started later in the month of I wrong?

Last night we enjoyed our traditional Back to School breakfast dinner. It has become a favorite tradition for the kids. Their favorite sugar cereal (a special treat), donuts, chocolate milk and orange juice and a fruit salad to round it out = breakfast of champions.Courage. It's the word for our school year this year (other words we've used in the past have been Thrive and Remember).

It takes me months of thinking and observing my little ones to finally decide on a word. Lots of thought about how the word can be applied to each school going child happens.

Courage to stand up for what you believe in. Courage to know you are smart. Courage away from home. Courage to do the right thing even if others around you aren't. Courage! Courage! Courage!
We'll keep the COURAGE banner up for the first week as a reminder for the girls. We even have a short, simple cheer we do before everyone leaves in the morning. The kids love it and it's my hope that repeating it everyday will help them remember what we talked about throughout their day.

Here's to a new school year...and here's to COURAGE!

Do you have a word that your family is focusing on?

You're the cutest mom ever Erica! What a fun tradition to start the school year off with :) We focus on quotes quite a bit, my newest one that I love is: "You bring about what you think about"

Make it a great one Erica!

This year our theme is "keeping moving forward!". Ava tends to get easily discouraged and I wanted something to help her.

our theme this year is "Be a Light". We released sky lanterns on saturday night. I love me some sugar cereal. My girls had cookie crisp for breakfast.
And seriously...Aug 15 what the heck? They didn't even get out of school until mid june. Too short!

My daughter started last week, summer went by too quickly! I didn't start until after labor growing up, starting in August is just odd to me.

I love the breakfast idea.

"Happiness" is our word for this year! Love the banner made with CD covers (or at least that's what it looks like).
