{2011}

I don't make resolutions...I just don't.

I do choose one word that I want to incorporate in how I go about my daily living at the beginning of each year...I just do.

I had a few words milling around in my mind but none really felt right.

Last night as I was preparing our dinner and grabbed the fortune cookies out of the pantry (you must have fortune cookies if you're going to have egg rolls right?) I couldn't resist the urge to have one right then and see what my fortune had in store.

The above fortune is what came out. "Your present plans are going to succeed."

I had found my word. The word that resonated in my head after reading my fortune was the word present.

Too often I think ahead. I'm not a planner in all areas of life, I like spontaneity. But when it comes to my children's future, our family's future and my personal future a bit of planning with a dash of spontaneity seems about right to me. Which requires a lot of thinking on my part.

This year I'm going to try and stop worrying about tomorrow or next week, month or year(s). I want to be more present in the experiences I'm experiencing...presently.

Really listen to my kids. Really be present when playing "Save the kitty" with the barbies for the 100th time that day. Really present when my husband is talking about a surgery that involved being sprayed with blood (again). Really be there for those family and friends who I care about.

Sounds easy? Sounds like you've already got that taken care of? Well you might. I thought I did. But lately I've noticed my mind drifting during those moments to things that should be getting done, plans for this and that, and then when I come back to the present I missed something.

I will make an attempt to be more present in 2011.

It looks as though if I keep it in the present all my plans are going to succeed, so that's a plus. Thank you fortune cookie.

What's your word for the year? Resolutions?

I'm like you, I don't really do the resolution thing but last year I did commit to not wish time away - which i guess is a lot like living in the present. It really is a great way to live!
