{Flashback}

I have this cedar chest full of things from my childhood. Trophies, crowns, dried flowers, ribbons, pictures, school notes and papers, notes that were passed between my best friend and me (hilarious to read), scratch 'n sniff stickers, etc. Opening it is always a fun thing for myself and the girls.

The other day I was digging around in there for something when I came across 2 books I had kept for YEARS. They were both "paint with water" books from years ago (1984 and 1990's). I just knew my girls would love them.I had already gone through my stash of ones I was lucky to find (and stock up on) while living in Iowa (for $1 each!) and I've been out of luck finding more since then.These little books, a little water and a paint brush kept the girls entertained for quite a while. No TV, leapster, Wii, or other electronic gadget was needed, which is always a plus in my book.A quick lesson on the amount of water to use so as not to soak the paper and maximize the paint color was given and we were good to go.I couldn't resist and did a few of the Rainbow Brite pictures. It totally took me back to Saturday Morning cartoons, popples, pound puppies and all sorts of 80's goodness.Now my only question is...where can I get more of these awesome books?

Michael's has them here in NJ! They truly are the easiest way to "paint" without all the mess.

Where to get more of those books? Ebay.com of course :) I've collected tons from there over the years. Of course, if you're ever just looking for coloring pages, you can download/print several from my website for free. Thanks for keeping the rainbow alive! ;)

I LOVED Rainbow Brite! I was rainbow brite for Halloween in 2nd grade and I remember being SO MAD at my mom for not "dying" my hair blonde so I could look just like her. Love it!
I loved paint with water. Looks like I need to send my mom to stock up on them for me at her Michaels

My kids would love those and I totally forgot about them. Thanks for the reminder. I used to really like those when I was little. I know how you feel about unplugging sometimes, I feel like my kids go from wii to playhouse Disney to itouches and on and on and I have to say enough! It's hard when technology is everywhere and I'm using it too.

I *think* I bought some at Michaels here in San Diego not too long ago??? I know Andrew was playing with these for HOURS recently, but can't quite remember where I bought them. Considering I shop at Michaels, Target, etc mostly, I am guessing one of those places! :) SO fun!!

I just did a search on Amazon, and they've got a bunch. Thanks for the idea! My girls love your ideas. They beg to take baths with "light sabers" now.

Erica - Target carries the paint with water books for like $.89! They are with their coloring books and you have to dig, they are typically on the bottom shelf and in the very back. I have bought several for Henry there. We LOVE to paint with water! I've seen them at a few different Target's out here and also some in Utah so I know I wasn't just "lucky" to find them. Check it out - they might be there!
