Growing up we'd start making gifts for neighbors and friends a month in advance. One year it was a handmade flower press, another year a seed sprouting kit...you get the picture. My mom always had unique and fun ideas for these gifts and although I don't go as extreme as making a flower press kit for each person I do enjoy doing something for neighbors and friends every year (a favorite from a few years back were the beeswax candles and match boxes).

After a quick rinse they were ready for gifts. I printed up The Legend of the Sand Dollar as a finishing touch and of course included something sweet & salty to enjoy as well. The pretzel carmel turtles were the perfect treat to include.
It was so enjoyable putting together these gifts as a family. The girls were so excited to give them out and Bret and I enjoyed the time we spent as a family.I thought it fitting for our first Christmas in California to include something that came from one of our favorite places here...the beach. The sand dollars were some of my favorite finds and I was happy to incorporate them in our gifts.
*Pretzel turtles*
Rolos
pretzels
nuts - we used mixed nuts and loved the results.
Place Rolo in center of pretzel. Place in over for 1 minute- long enough to melt the chocolate. Remove and press nut in center of Rolo. Let cool. ENJOY!

Ok...I just got super excited. I made these a couple yrs ago but my husband said they HAD to be made with walnuts and I am not a walnut fan...to see yours with cashews, I think I might run to the store and try these right now. :)
That is a lovely story of the sand dollars. I have never heard of that.
Your girls are so pretty.
thanks for the cd of christmas music! i love it
What a fun Idea. I wish i leaved near a beach to do the same thing. Do you the great salt lake would have sand dollars? :) The turtles look delicious too.
I made those last night for friends and they are soooo good. I couldn't find Rolos so I used Dove chocolates. I need to get them out of my house before I eat them all!
I love sand dollars. I remember as a child my grandma had one and I would go into the bedroom and hold it and look at it for hours. They just seem so fragile and beautiful. Great story to go along with them.
Love me some Rolos!!

Hope you bring me some sand dollars!
Such cute girls! They look so grown up! And absolutely beautiful, they look so much like you :) Those look like absolutely delicious neighbor gifts and I love the sand dollars. Now I feel completely guilty that the neighbor gifts were one of the things that just didn't get done before we left for the great white north. The guilt!
LOVE those! Just made a huge batch for movie night. We call 'em Rolo Turtles (original, huh) and use pecan halves as our nut. They are divine!
