Well I'm at that point. The point where I am in need of some sort of break. Luckily for me this time of year, though busy with family fun and Holiday celebration, slows down a bit with photo sessions, play dates and other things that pull and stretch me too thin.
Yesterday I needed to rejuvenate. Instead of cleaning the house, or doing the dishes, or whatever I needed to do for the two hours my girls were napping, I chose to do things I wanted to do.

Sipping the hot cocoa and feeling the stream of warmth coat my still-recovering-from-a-cold throat pulled a sigh and an "Mmmmmm" from my lips. H.E.A.V.E.N.

After emailing friends, I clicked on over and read the comments on my blog - each one making me smile (we all love comments). Then I proceeded to visit my list of blogs, some of which I handn't visited for a while. Blogs are amazing. They uplift, spark imagination and make me want to do more and be more (sometimes not a good thing I suppose). You bloggers are wonderful!
After spending as much time as I wanted visiting the blogosphere I opened my friend Mr. Photoshop CS3 and did some editing on a recent wedding I did. I enjoy editing. I love to see how each session is captured differently since my inspirations are pulled from the people in the session. I will admit that sometimes I do get sick of seeing pores and editing out that stray hair in every picture but it's so fulfilling in the end to click through them and see how beautiful people are. Raw shots, capturing simple details and ones taken candidly of the people just interacting are my favorite.
And what would a little indulgent break be for me without opening up my nearly full DVR and catching up on a little Gossip Girl? The clothes alone on this show are eye candy for me.Yes, it was as great little break from the usual for me. I was even more spoiled after dinner when Bret took the girls to the play area in the mall without me and I spent my alone time working on more earrings, baking some double chocolate brownies and mindlessly watching the previously recorded beauty episode Oprah did yesterday (1/25 shows she does might be worth watching :D).
What do you do when you have some "alone time"? Am I the only one out there who goes through this cycle of craziness? How do you rejuvenate after being frazzled?

Double chocolate brownies? Post that recipe as well please. I do the same things on alone time, except edit pictures. Glad you took some time off girl.
Alone time usually finds me in my office with a good book... [office = bath tub, and I have only dropped a book once, when I was in grade school!]
Oh my gosh, I haven't made homemade hot chocolate in years! I have been enjoying all the Stephen's Gourmet Hot Chocolate flavors so much [especailly Italian Amaretto] that making my own had completely slipped my mind...
Your recipe is nothing like I have ever made before, and I am going to try it very soon. Thanks for sharing it...
P.S. I second it on giving us the double chocolate brownie recipe...
Oh I feel the same way as you do... craziness overcomes me at times! But that's what happens to us mommas occassionally I suppose! And we all need a little break time! :) For me, it is catching up TV for sure... I still have two new Gossip Girls and One Tree Hills hehe!! That and sitting down with a big Diet Coke, or maybe even grabbing one of my current books and reading a bit... ah, I think I need a little bit of relation time today too haha!! xo!
my "me" time comes every night if possible. after the kids are in the bed and i spend a little time with the hubby...i like to go to my room and either read or catch up on dvr. sometimes this is with a cold dr. p on ice and a snack (not good since most of the time it is late!)! when the kids aren't there, sounds weird, but i do my best cleaning when no one else is around. crank up the tunes and go to town!
Yes please post the double chocolate brownie recipes! YUM! I am going to try the homemade hot chocolate too! I had two cups of Stephen's hot chocolate yesterday...then I discovered each cup has 160 calories in it! Next time I am going for Coke instead!!
Oh how i cherish nap time each day. i am so proud of myself for the fact that i FINALLY got the boys on the same nap schedule. YES!! So hmm...what to do with myself for 2 hrs. Honestly I don't do any housework during that time. If i did my two hours would be up and then its back to the chaos of the day. I love curling up to a great book, read blogs, and just gather my thoughts when its actually quiet. Amazing how your mind can concentrate and think when there aren't a million other things to attend to with our kids. Gotta say LOVE the kids...but LOVE nap time even more! haha! (not really but you get the picture)
PS: On a side note, before the rest of the month gets too wild and crazy with Thanksgiving and everything, I wanted to come see you for VT next week. So look at what days are free and just let me know what works best!!
mmmm, that sounds wonderful. I am going to try the hot chocolate today. it is raining here, so I will try to recreate your day.
All I can say is that I'm SO jealous that your girls still nap! When Max quit napping I thought my life was over. I'm used to it now, but it would still be so nice.
I usually have to steal a free minute or two to read or blog or work with photos while he's watching something on PBS.
Wow homemade hot chocolate you always amaze me! I am glad you took time for the things you chose to do thank goodness for naptime, You are going to have to teach me how to get 2 kids to nap I think..
that sounds so nice! sigh...I miss weather. Ours NEVER changes. Not one good rain storm or frost. I miss it. Alone time is good too. I was alone a couple weeks ago for the first time since we left dsm. I sat in front of my computer and caught up on my LIpstick Jungle :)!
Thanks for sharing the Hot Choco recipe!! I can't wait ot try it!! What a great afternoon you had, I love those R & R days!!

Hi Erica!
Mimi McDonald (we taught dance together) has been telling me that I need to read your blog-particulary "Modge Podge Monday". She said that I reminded her of you. So...I finally found some time to sit and read your bloggity blog. Call me the blog stocker but Mimi is right. I am completely creeped out at how much alike we are! And the more I read, the more creeped out I got! For example, glitter skulls (broke down and bought the PB one), vintage birds, WS acorn mini muffin pan (dog-eared in my catalog), mustard yellow fetish, knee socks and boots, anthropologie, potty training saga, green PBK tree--want it!, feather headbands (wore one yesterday) and we posted the same pair of t-strap ruffle shoes...just to name a few! I'm pretty sure its a blessing to our pocket books that we aren't BFFs:D. Anyway...you seem to be an absolutely fabulously talented girly girly! If you're ever in the great Northwest neighborhood we should set up a blind date and I'll take you to all my fav. hot spots in Seattle! The two of us putting together our wannabe fashion expertise could create absolutely smashing wardrobes!:D You are a rockstar!
Jo Dee aka "Princess Pookie"
P.S. If we were making the trek to SLC this Christmas I'd totally be setting up a photo shoot with you! But I want mine on the green couch. LOVE IT!
What a great way to unwind Erica! You totally deserve it too. The cocoa looks amazing.
Ohhh- I'm going to make some of that Hot Chocolate TODAY! Looks Delish!
Way to go. I had some Tahiti/French bread this morning... but it's too hot for hot cocoa. But it was still very enjoyable :)
Ah...you just had to rub it in that you're eating THE REAL DEAL!! :) When in Tahiti you must drink Milo...every morning... :)
P.S.S. It's blog stocker again (Jo Dee)! Is it too late to enter the earring give-a-way?:) I'm pretty sure I need a pair. I pretend to be a jewelerist (is that a word?) and make ridiculously quirky oversized bracelets. I'll make ya a trade! I'm obsessed w/large accessories...especially rings!
I can't wait to try that recipe. yum! I also love to work on my computer to relax.
ok, so I have a confession... that is what I do EVERY day! I guess I am at a lovely little stage where I have one child and who luckily takes a good 3-hour nap. As soon as I put him down - I do the dishes while the water is boiling, make a lovely cup of peppermint herbal tea (with animal crackers) and watch tv while I craft (lately it's been knitting) or play around with my CS3. I'll be way too sad when I have to give up "my time"!
I'm printing that hocho... yum!
Your awesome! Us moms always need some me time. Love Gossip Girl! Thanks for the hot cocoa recipe. Can't wait to try it.
Yes! Yes! Yes! I get so overwhelmed sometimes with my familys busy schedule and all of the cleaning I do. I need to take some time to myself and do what I WANT TO DO. That would be nice... ;)

I'm glad you got some alone time. I got some the other day, thanks to my sister-in-law, but I have to say that it was a little too long. Five hours is a lot of wasted time alone for me. The first couple hours of sitting down and doing crossword puzzles watching some good tv was nice, but after that I was just plain bored.
P.S. Your hot chocolate sounds so yummy!
Wow! I can't wait to make that hot chocolate! it sounds to good to be true... we'll see.
Thanks for the hot chocolate recipe, that sounds scrumptious! I like to read when I get a chance, or just sit and kick my feet up and do nothing!
I drink hot chocolate year round and I'm always up for trying a new yummy recipe. MMMMMmmmm.... Thanks!
Oh, nap time is definitely my sanity saver many days. I just HAVE to have some quiet time just for me. And mine sounds pretty similar to yours. I blog, email, edit pictures or craft in some form or another, usually while watching a show. I feel so much more rejuvenated and ready to tackle dinner, baths, bedtime, and the whole nine yards. I will be so sad when naptime doesn't happen anymore at my house! I am definitely making that hot chocolate for sure.
Down time? What is this fabulous thing that you speak of? I am so, so jealous that both of your girls nap at the same time! Anna's hasn't napped for years. When Katie naps I usually set Anna up with a craft, or movie and crafty things to keep her occupied, but I'm still constantly interrupted with "Mom, how do you spell?" or "Mom I need...." etc. I try to get blogging, emailing, scheduling, important phone calls done then. After the girls are in bed at night and Christian's working late I love to catch up on the DVR or read a great book, with some yummy treats of course :) Seriously, so jealous of your day yesterday! :)
PS - that hot chocolate sounds delish. Sweetened condensed milk? Yes please! :) Thanks for sharing the recipe!
Sounds exactly like what I go through!
About once a week I have to take a night ALONE and sit and watch Grey's Anatomy with some freshly roasted pine nuts.
Completely refreshes me.
That hot chocolate looks YUMMY! And low fat. I'm going to have to make some. Thanks for the recipe.
You sound similar to me. I like to overbook myself and I do everything 748%. No less.
I really don't like Oprah. But I think she has on some shows that are ok every once in a blue moon.
During nap time...I don't do anything fun. Pick up the house, laundry, figure out what to have for dinner. Sometimes I am really lazy and don't do anything...Just watch TV and I feel so good about my self when I do that!! Maybe that is why I am on overload right now! Too many things going through my head! This time of year always seems to bring it out more..don't you think?
Love Hot Chocolate!!!
