It's the first place I check each and every time I go to Target. It's a place that I can never leave without some sort of object/item in my cart. It provides cool little toys, bits and baubles that keep my kids entertained for hours. It's the $1 section a la Target. Please tell me you have all taken advantage of this little section of cheap heaven!!
Rain always seems to pay a visit on the rare occasions that Bret is home botching some sort of plans we had to spend as much time outdoors while we still can. What to do on a rainy day stuck inside (aside from the usual dancing, running around, movie watching, book reading, coloring fun we usually do)...Super Target Dollar Section to the rescue!
Out came the packets of beads and string (3 different packages - wooden beads, shiny flower beads and letter shaped beads), all premade for your necklace making pleasure, of course each a buck (you can bet 6 of these little packets were placed in my cart....hello LONG Iowa winters!).
An hour and a half later 2 beautiful necklaces were produced and goood quality time was enjoyed by all. Love it!
Here's some more stuff I've scored in that lovely section of Target heaven:
+thick grosgrain ribbon in yummy chocolate brown and moss green
+Velvety ric rac and pom pom fringe (on wire and silk ribbon)
+shiny sequins and glitter glue sticks
+foam stickers, notebooks full of stickers, chip board letters
+multiple little wooden toys and Disney paraphernalia galore
All of these things are used to craft/embellish things the girls create and I even use the decorative ribbin to wrap gifts with (gotta love a good pom pom fringe!). They are also used to reward the girls when they obtain a certain number of gold stars on their chore charts.
Finding super rad stuff in the El cheapo section is very enjoyable. Spending $2-$4 every time we go in on objects that make doing little projects and crafts fun is so worth it in my opinion (and double worth it when using them to bribe my kids :D). Next time you're at Target stop by that section and see what you can find.
What are some bargain places you like to check out?
A few more that I dig:
+Michaels - stamps, ribbon, crafty stuff
+Dollar Tree - cheapo candy that we always get and sneak into the movies
+Of course any sale/clearance section in my favorite clothing stores

14 people are bringing SEXY back:
OK, you are so stinking smart! I almost always just walk by that section and never check it. I'm going to check it every time now. I've been trying to figure out how to motivate Max to do chores and to obey without always having to use candy as the reward--looks like there may be other ways! :)
I love how much your girls enjoy crafting and art. I wish Max was a little more into that. I guess it's kid of a girl boy thing. I loved it when I was little too, but my brothers weren't so much into it.
i LOVE that photo of your daughter's tiny feet and her string of magical beads.
love the dollar spot! you scored some great ribbons and trims, haven't seen those before.
I love the dollar spot, and the dollar store - only dollar tree though, because some of those crazy dollar stores, aren't all a dollar. Gage loves walking in there with his money and spending forever and ever picking something out. It cracks me up each time.
So cool your kids will play with stuff that long. I'm thinking it's a girl thing. Nothing non-athletic or non-adventuresque has captured Will's attention that long. Ever. However, I gave Natalie this little bracelet I got when I donated a $1 to some charity, and she can't stop playing with the thing. I'm looking forward to having two girls. ;)
Love the Target dollar section and have spent many dollars buying these same treasures for my girls!
I also love the dollar goodies at Target! Good stuff!
And completely unrelated to your post...
My husband says it's like sleeping with a new wife!
I love, love, love Targets $ section!! I have bought toys, book household items and I love them all!!
If it's a $1 sign me up! I am always up for a good deal!
I am stealing your ribbion idea!
I love the $1 bins at Target! They have some great things in them, and for a dollar you just can't say no :) Although, you seem to find way cooler things than I do, I think you have a gift for finding amazing things :)
So I just finished watching 90210... and having mixed feelings. Of course I want to watch it, just to see what happens, but the acting is hardly bearable. Honestly, I want to cringe while I'm watching it because most of the actors are HORRIBLE. What do you think?
Thats funny you posted about this today--because I was just there today! LOVE Target first of all, and that dollar section rocks. Especially the "seasonal items" usually are pretty cool. I have to say though, the girl's trinkets (ie beads) are usually WAY cooler than the boy stuff. I bought that fun ribbon too there today.
PS I am shocked you buy candy and sneak it into the movie theater. Erica Erica...I thought I knew you better! (note the sacrasm)
Very much on my mind and in my heart, too...
Just saw your blog for the first time.Aren't you a talented lady, with an addorable family.Love all the crafty stuff. Target is my favorite. Here is my bargain tip which I hate to share because I want to find all the deals. However there is enough to go around.I love to go to thrift stores for fabric and trims. If you can get through some of the ugliness and imagine what you can turn it into. That's how I get a lot of my laces and silks, and for supper cheap.
I love the $1 section in Target. Whenever we're back in the US, Target is one of our first stops...and of course so is their $1 section!
